The Qadiriyya are members of the Qadiri tariqa (Sufi order) founded by Abdul Qadir Gilani. This order, known for its adherence to the fundamentals of Islam, has a widespread presence in many regions worldwide including Arabic-speaking countries, Turkey, Indonesia, Afghanistan, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, the Balkans, Russia, Palestine, Israel, China, and East and West Africa. The respected scholar Abdul Qadir Gilani established the Qadiriyya as a distinct and prestigious Sufi order, which flourished over the centuries and spread to various parts of the world. With significant branches established by the end of the fifteenth century in places like Morocco, Spain, Turkey, India, Ethiopia, Somalia, Mali and even reaching Ottoman-occupied areas of Europe in the seventeenth century. The Qadiriyya remains an influential Sunni institution with a rich history rooted in Sufi teachings.
